American this morning announced additional details on the upgraded amenities and interior designs of their new A319, A321, B737-800, and B777-300ER fleet and they sound awesome! This is the most excited I’ve been about future AA flying in a long time. The all NEW planes will have personal in-seat entertainment in every class, Wi-Fi, 110V AC power, and USB jacks. Additionally, leather seats will be standard on all new A319, A321, and B737-800 aircraft. As per the press release, American plans to have the youngest fleet amongst the major US carriers within five years. The pictures below are examples of the new interiors for the B737 and A321/319 which will be replacing the MD-80, 757, and 767-200.

Plans were also announced for AA’s transcon service between JFK and LAX / SFO which will utilize the A321 instead of the current 767-200 and will fly in a 3 class configuration. The product looks excellent with fully lie-flat seats in First and Business Class (all-aisle access from every First Class seat) as well as Main Cabin Extra seating. There’s a total of 20 fully flat business seats with HD touchscreen and 10 first class seats.
American had previously announced plans for their new international B777-300ER fleet which will also include fully flat First and Business Class seats, Boeing Sky Interior, and Main Cabin Extra seating.

Good riddance to the MD80. I also read that AA is cutting back severely on the number of first class seats in the fleet

THEY’RE MOVING TO “LEATHER” SEATS IN DOMESTIC TOO!?! Great…the only airline I can fly without them is United now. Better late than never to switch my loyalty.
The AA link says “select international flights rolling out in early 2013” Do you have info on which are these? I’m planning to travel to Asia in Jan 2013, so if this works out, it’d be nice.
