Delta Adding B767 Widebodies with Lie-Flat Seats on JFK/LAX Routes in 2013

Gustoj820’s post on Flyertalk reports that Delta is adding B767z widebodies on the JFK-LAX routes.  I haven’t been able to confirm with any external sources but Delta’s website verifies the information. This is great news as it means 26 lie-flat seats and hopefully better upgrade chances versus the 16 BusinessElite seats currently on the B757E, though on the other hand, this probably also means more purchased business class seats. However, Economy Comfort will increase from 11 seats on the 757E to 29 on the 767z which should be a plus for Medallion members.

It looks like starting March 30 2013, Delta will have a single B767Z plying the LAX-JFK route as a flight number continuation of DL16/17 to and from Sydney.
16 LAXJFK 0830 1705 B767Z
17 JFKLAX 1815 2135 B767Z

And then beginning Sunday June 02 2013, there will be four widebody flights on LAX-JFK in addition to three of the BE equipped 757E.

Only the Widebody Schedule:
0206 LAXJFK 0630 1505 B767Z
0016 LAXJFK 0830 1710 B767Z
0862 LAXJFK 1115 1955 B767Z
1162 LAXJFK 2130 0600 B767Z
0763 JFKLAX 0700 1010 B767Z
0127 JFKLAX 1530 1855 B767Z
0017 JFKLAX 1815 2135 B767Z
2363 JFKLAX 2100 0025 B767Z
As mentioned in the other modifications thread, the “767Z” is a high density version of the 767ER that will have 26 lie-flat seats in Business and 200 seats in Y+/Y.

This is in addition to the B767T that will be on the JFK-SEA route with 36 BusinessElite lie-flat seats beginning June 1st.

  1. True. I wonder if this also has something to do with cargo as the AA 762s are going away, there won’t be much in the way of widebodies on that route. I guess QF still has a widebody flight, but I know they can’t sell passenger tickets, while I’m not sure what the rules are on selling cargo space.
