Yep, you read that headline right. The Shanghaiist, explains how Spring Airlines, “China’s only low cost carrier” is completely changing their flight attendant uniforms to be more service oriented.
Shanghai-based budget carrier Spring Airlines is planning to dress its female flight attendants as maids, and their male colleagues as butlers, in what is definitely not a PR stunt. Spring Airlines plans to launch several themed flights to attract passengers this year and the maid costume flights will be the first. The move has attracted criticism from passengers, Shanghai Daily reports: Online reaction was swift. The airline should be attracting passengers by making sure flights were on time, offering cheaper tickets and improving services, netizens said, rather than this “excessive way” of gaining public attention. Others praised the move, drawing parallels between Spring’s maid flights and Japanese maid cafes. Whatever one thinks of maids and butlers serving you drinks in the sky, it’s certainly not stupider than Taiwan airline EVA Airway’s Hello Kitty flights.

I like these novel ideas. They don’t conflict at all with “on time, offering cheaper tickets and improving services” so I’m not sure what Shanghai Daily’s issue is.

There was a recent article about an explosion in demand for “properly trained” demand for Butlers, with China leading the way. Not sure they’ll be flying a LCC however.
lmao! i’d fly them if i were in China just for the experience. If the butlers spoke like Mr. Carson from downtown abbey, i’d be totally impressed!!!
love the idea. the western part of the world needs to start putting more attractive flight attendants on their flights too. tired of seeing old, messy, wrinkly people.
