World’s Best Airlines Named – Emirates Returns to First Place – Full Winners & Links

SkyTrax has once again announced their World’s Best Airline award winner, presenting the trophy to Emirates on Tuesday evening in Paris. It wasn’t Emirates first award, but it was the first time they’ve won since 2002. The top 10 list this year (like the last few years) is extremely heavy on carriers from the Middle East and Asia. In fact, the highest any US based carrier finished was 27th place, awarded to Virgin America. Delta was the top finisher of legacy US carriers, finishing at #45.

According to the survey methodology page, the World Airline Awards are the most prestigious accolades for the world airline industry. Travellers from over 160 countries take part each year in the world’s largest airline passenger satisfaction survey to decide the award winners. The World Airline Awards are a global benchmark of airline excellence. Operating since 1999, the World Airline Survey is held in high esteem for it’s clarity of Survey process and rigorously applied rules of complete independence. No outside sponsorship, advertising, payment or external influence is applied to any part of the Survey, making it a most respected global airline passenger study.

  1. As others have mentioned the old requirement that a 5* did not have 3-4-3 Y seating has disappeared, so it is only natural for EK to become 5*.

BTW it is more about how much the airline paid them than anything else, everyone knows that by now. Take it with a grain of salt.
