Trip Report – Austrian Airlines Lounge Vienna & Austrian F70 VIE-KBP (Kiev)

This is part three of a twelve part trip picture report from my current travels to Kiev, Vienna, Tel Aviv, and Kraków. This trip report covers the Austrian Airlines Lounge @ Vienna as well as my F70 flight from Vienna (VIE) to Kiev (KBP).

After a great flight from JFK to Vienna, I headed to the Austrian Airlines lounge. Keep in mind that you’ll have to clear passport control to enter the lounge and connecting gate areas, even if connecting to a non Schengen Zone country.

The lounge is nice with a very Austrian feel to it. It was empty when I first arrived early in the morning, but began to fill-up as I got ready for my connection to Kiev. There were some small breakfast items, a fully stocked bar, refrigerators of soda and beer, assorted juices, and a cappuccino and espresso machine.

The lounge is quite small with a main seating area, (with a great view) a lounging area, a few business desks, and the bathrooms..that’s pretty much it. There was excellent wifi and plenty of outlets for charging.

Austrian from Vienna (VIE) to Kiev (KBP):

I was in business which is the common European economy cabin with the middle seat blocked out. The plane was sort of old, but I did appreciate the unique colors!

It’s a short 1 hour and 54 minute flight (we did it in 1 hour and 39 minutes) on the A319, but the service was excellent. I had an excellent lunch that included a salad, shrimp appetizer, meatball dish, and mousse. I didn’t have any wine or cocktails as it was early morning but the drinks were flowing for the other business class passengers.  Wine in coach was also quite popular. I also liked that they had a selection of about thirty magazines (no joke), and each was protected in its own little casing. The flight attendant literally went around asking what you were interested in. Responses ranged from cars, to electronics, computers, travel, etc. and it was amazing to see her pull a magazine out (in the correct language) for each of the passengers.

  1. The plane you show is not a A319, it´s a Fokker (looks like a F-70 but it could also be a F-100). Nice report!

  2. Umm.. That looks like a Fokker rather than an Airbus (either a F-70 or an F-100… Austrian operate both…)

The food looks really nice for a Intra-EU flight though – good catering can make a difference!

    • @Fernando & Kevincm – Yes, you guys must be right, my mistake. Though interestingly enough my itinerary says A319 as does the ITA website for flight 661 every day. Agree through, looks like the F-70
