Kiva Do – Earn Miles & Make a Difference – Fee Free CC Funding via PayPal

by Adam

Have you had a chance to visit 72 countries? Kiva has!

What is Kiva? Kiva is a charity dedicated to microfinance support of borrowers in countries all around the world. From their beginning 8 years ago, they have strived to help entrepreneurs build a better life for them and their families by providing loans funded by Kiva lenders like the almost 2000 milepoint teammates. A simple $25 loan combined with other lenders is used to fund small loans to help people start or build businesses, further their education and other great green initiatives like organic farming, bringing clean drinking water to communities or powering up with solar energy. Loans can be funded through PayPal, and unlike other PayPal transactions, the credit card charges are fee-free.

Kiva has almost one million lenders who have made almost half a billion dollar in loans and have maintained an impressive 99% repayment rate on loans. The milepoint team was formed in Feb 2011 when the milepoint community began and has been an instrumental part of Kiva’s growth. The team is closing in on $6M in loans, the third largest total of all teams, even though other teams have up to 20 times more members!

The milepoint team has gone beyond individual lending, including a donation fund for Kiva, sponsoring a Kiva Fellow to work in the field and organizing the first Kiva Do in March 2012 centered around Kiva. Following the success of last year’s event, there will be another Kiva Do October 25-27th in San Francisco. The Kiva founder, President and many other leaders within Kiva will speak. There will also be the opportunity to socialize with many milepoint members, including co-Founder and travel guru – Randy Petersen!

This is a great opportunity to learn more about this dynamic charity that is making the world a better place and gives context as to what is great about our travel community one loan at a time. The Do is open to everyone and your participation is welcome!
