Look at this Delta Round-the-World Award in Process

by Adam

Juicy Miles does receive quite a few requests for Round-the-World awards and tomorrow’s post is going to include a “How To” guide on booking these. We’ll be discussing planning advice, booking procedures, allowable airlines, a rundown of the nitty-gritty rules, and tips and tricks for success. For now, here’s one of the more crazy itineraries we are working on (it’s still being finalized as we are making some modifications to routes and airlines)…

280,000 miles (coach is 180,000 miles)

RTW Part1
RTW Part2
RTW Part3

@TrAAveller – 280,000 miles (coach is 180,000 miles). Taxes are manually calculated, making some changes that will impact those…check out tomorrow’s post for full details

Think twice before you have decided to try out Saudi Air… Aren’t there other options available?

Great RTW itin, but WTF…It’s Kenya and Saudi all over. Was it hard to find other airlines?

I feel bad for this traveler. Kenya Airways biz class product looks like it was pulled off of an Amtrak train…and Saudi Arabian Airlines (multiple legs)? I hope they don’t drink

I have enough for either the 180K economy Delta/United RTW or an AA business (150K) ticket. Is there any benefit to going with skyteam/star alliance over one world given the HUGE difference in miles?

Those Korean segments interest me. The past few days I have been going crazy, getting Delta Diamond agents, manual rebooking and more for hours at a time to get some intra-Asia Korean segments (biz or economy) on an Asia award that includes DL, CI, and MU. Whatever they try they cannot see the availability on the KE segments and what is making it all the more frustrating is they are showing on delta.com and fully bookable there on separete tickets. Any ideas? The backups we have are tolerable but less convenient and more surcharges.

Looking at this itinerary (which is well put together) and the airlines in them, I’m glad I don’t have to fly this.

@David – Saudia is pretty good, and a very interesting cultural experience. The big downside is the overnight in Jeddah on a return, those passengers may have a real issue getting Saudi transit visas and I don’t think they will enjoy sitting in the airport overnight. I got the transit visas for me and my wife but it took 4 trips to the NYC consulate.

Kenya Airways has some decrepit planes including the Dubai-Nairobi route, but what awesome destinations! Madagascar is high on my list.

China Southern is very good, I am partial from the years I lived in China, when I had many excellent experiences. One time on a tight connection due to weather, as a SkyTeam Elite Plus they greeted me at the plane, and raced me through the basement of Guangzhou airport, pop upstairs for expedited immigration, then back down through the luggage handling areas to get me to my gate for the plane being held. Never had an experience like that anywhere else. And that was on a NW award ticket in coach.
