The lounge is located just past security and customs, arrows on the floor if you get lost…
Multiple seating areas but early morning and afternoon are extremely busy with Alitalia, American, and United flights back to the US.
There’s a work area with four computers and there are seats at the bar… wifi was decent while access to outlets was sporadic.
In terms of food and drink, the pickings were slim. There’s an espresso bar and a small snack area. During our 8am visit there were hard croissants, nuts, a single pasta dish, and two couscous plates. There was plenty of still and sparkling water (I stocked up for the trip back) and some wine as well.
I’ve visited this lounge before, but I had forgotten how underwhelming it is (the in-flight magazines were even from two months earlier). Don’t get me wrong – I wanted a comfy seat, some water, wifi, an outlet, and a snack. The lounge fulfilled all of those needs and was close to my departure gate. Funny story, a manager was sent over to talk to me about taking pictures in the lounge. I was told that I’d be asked to leave if I took any more pictures and that the “design and espresso bar were top secret”. You heard that Emirates / Singapore / Cathay – don’t go copying the Giotto lounge or espresso bar!

not surprised to hear you’re underwhelmed. Hard Italian croissant is a “cornetti” ciao
@david – I’m pretty sure these were not meant to be cornettis
I remember my first Lounge visit, 15 years ago, in FCO. I asked about getting Hot Cocoa and there response was “press this button and the machine is not broken”. After tasting a delicious but not very sweet cocoa they explained that they were used to Americans telling them the machine needed fixing because the cocoa tasted like chocolate. Long Live CIOBAR!
Two months ago, in FCO’s Schengen lounge (which is, by the way, good 15 minutes of brisk walk from the Alitalia’s Schengen gates), on Saturday morning, in an empty lounge (2 other customers) – only coffee and ONE croissant. No juice, no other dishes. I was heavily disappointed!
[…] was in T1 at FCO instead of the usual T3, and wow is the Dolce Vita lounge much nicer than the Alitalia Giotto Lounge in T3 for the US departures. I’ll have a full trip report next week, but catering by Eataly and a […]
That does not sound like much of a lounge to me. But then… Alitalia can’t run an airline so why would we expect them to run a lounge? There must be other options in Rome, no?

I will be having a very long layover in FCO this September. I would like to find a lounge that would allow me to shower and freshen up. I am tempted to just get a room at the Hilton there at the airport to take a nap though. Any advice you could give is appreciated.
@melissa – The lounge does have wifi and snacks and will allow for a shower. It is quite crowded and definitely not one of the nicest lounges I’ve visited. I much prefer the Dolce Vita lounge (it’s pre-security, but it sounds like you have plenty of time).
