I really liked the JAL SKY SUITE and JAL service that much, despite a 2-3-2 layout, it was hands-down the most comfortable and spacious business class I’ve ever flown. I haven’t flown Cathay’s new business product yet, but in my opinion this beats out their old business as well as Singapore’s current business offering (hard product). I originally opted for an aisle, but after reading some reviews, decided to go for the window seat which was extremely private thanks to the divider screen yet still maintains a direct aisle path. I’m really happy that I choose the JAL SKY SUITE over ANA’s staggered business which is a standard business product on many airlines. I’ll have a full review in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, check out a few pictures:
Spacious window seat with direct aisle access cut-out and large 23 inch TV (same as in First). The suite set-up reminded me of similar first class set-ups on several airlines (see pic 3)
Privacy screen
Bed
Amenities included Panasonic noise canceling headphones, mattress pad, satellite wi-fi, JAL PJ top, in-flight art gallery, and of course TOTO toilets.
In addition to the standard dinner (first two pics), there is anytime ordering all flight long until 1.5 hours prior to landing. All orders are placed on your handset and mine were always delivered within 3-5 minutes…impressive!
Again, I loved the privacy and the roominess of my suite, the huge tv, touchscreen food and snack ordering, and the amazing service. Full review coming soon. Needless to say, JAL’s SKY SUITE was 100x better than AA’s soft and hard First Class product on the outbound. It was also much nicer than my last JAL business trip in 2010 with their SHELL FLAT (not really flat) NEO product.

what miles did u use to book this? can u tell us your itin?
@tom – will be doing a full trip report with booking details but this was using AA miles – DFW-NRT-JFK
Which route was this flight on? I’m scheduled to take a flight next month from San Diego to Narita in business class but those seats are the JAL Shell Flat Neo that don’t look so good. I can change it to Vancouver to Narita those seats are JAL Sky Suite II. What do you think?
@Karim – Although the 787 on the SAN route will be cool, the JAL SKY SUITE is worth a switch. Are you sure the Vancouver route will have the new SKY SUITE on the day of your travel? You can check directly on JAL’s website. I was flying NRT-JFK
Glad to hear you had great time with JAL’s new product. But since you are not too tall, do you think “regular size American” will fit in? How about the cabin? Is 2-3-2 lay out too crowded?
@Shannon – Actually was not too crowded at all and there is a separate private bus cabin right after first. PS 5′ 11″ is actually a bit taller than the average American male. Back to the SB…
hard to imagine the 2-3-2 can’t be too crowded as 1-2-1 seems more like a standard for the new business class..look forward to your report. Sorry abut the height issue, I am a relatively short girl at 6’1″ in my big family so I tend to think that way. Allow me to rephrase it… Do you think a passenger between 6’1″ to 6’5″ will fit the seat?
@Shannon – the personal space on JAL’s 2-3-2 is much larger than that found on most carrier flights with a 1-2-1 set-up. In terms of crowdedness, there were four bathrooms and I never waited for one at all. The food and snack items on the in-flight ordering system did begin to run out in the last 90 minutes of the flight though. Even at a short 6’1″ I think you’ll be comfortable..i had plenty of extra leg room 😉
@Shannon, I am confused. I read this blog and your comments daily. Sometimes it seems like you are flirting with Adam, and have a little crush. Then other times you are writing unnecessarily mean comments that make no sense. You are acting like a young shy school girl with a crush. You are wasting our reading time.
I am interacting with author- Adam. I don’t need your opinion and don’t expect your time to read mine!
@Brooke & Shannon – No need to fight girls, lots of room in the Sky Suite
@Shannon, not denying my comment….
Yah, Whatever!
Okay, nothing against Shannon, but Brooke is awesome.
@Jonathan – thanks Jonathan! See you at the next ‘Point Me’ meetup.

How are the sky suites for a couple traveling together? Is it still reasonably easy to have conversation if we are so inclined?
Thanks!
