Hilton Deducts Post Deval. Points for Pre-Deval Stay!

by Adam

I’m sure you all remember my Conrad Maldives stay which I wrote about several times (Trip Report Part 1 & Trip Report – Conrad Maldives Rangali Island 2), well it turns out that even-though the stay was in December 2013 and originally booked in March 2013, the points have been deducted once again in March 2014…but at the new rate of 95,000 per night instead of the 37,500 I booked at, an increase of 230,000 points! The old award was then redeposited.

I just got off the phone with Hilton HHonors account care and they were easily able to see everything I was explaining and eager to correct the situation. They’ve sent a message to the hotel asking them to redeposit the points and I should hear back within 3 days.

I suspect that most of you wouldn’t have this problem as you burned most of your points pre-devaluation and there wouldn’t be many to pull. Unfortunately, I had a business trip this year in a location where there was only a Hilton…hence the additional balance.

Seems like the potential is always there. I’ve got a stay booked for September at an SPG property pre-category increase. If I look at the booking it shows that I’m paying post-category increase rates. I’ve confirmed that I’m not. In theory. Will just have to see what happens when I actually stay there.

In light of the fact that I still have a reservation at the Conrad Maldives (on pre-deval points) coming up…Is your feeling that this occurrence is more likely a one-off snafu, or could it be likely that this could happen systematically with all pre-devaluation-booked stays?

Might also be nice to hear from the Conrad Maldives directly on this…we know they read your blog!
