Trip Report & Review – British Airways Galleries Lounge Washington-Dulles

by Enoch

As the last extended vacation of my life (aka right after graduating college), I put together a pretty big trip to Asia. Thanks to the kind feedback, here’s round two of my guest trip report series (and I promise, there will only be one Cathay Pacific flight in this one).

Interestingly, like my last trip report, this trip started off with a visit to the British Airways Galleries Lounge. I scheduled a 5-hour layover in Dulles so that I could check out the different lounges at the airport. My Priority Pass gave me access to the British Airways Galleries Lounge, even though I would be flying with United.

The lounge is one floor above the gate level, but the entrance is one of the first things I saw when I stepped out of the train that connects the different concourses. An elevator took me up to the second floor.

It is interesting to note that the lounge is only accessible to Priority Pass holders from 7 am to 2 pm, likely because the lounge gets crowded after with all the departing BA flights in the afternoon. Additionally, there were two parts to the lounge…the Priority Pass-accessible one has windows that face the tarmac, while the other side of the lounge (not accessible to me) faces the interior of the concourse.

At 7:30 am, I was the only guest in the lounge. The lounge had huge windows and a big TV, as well as a variety of seating options.

There is a pretty decent selection of snacks and beverages—the usuals for British Airways lounges. Personally, I am a sucker for wasabi peas, and must have consumed at least half of the gigantic jar.

Not sure if they were available all day, but there were also juices and milk bottles (the ice was most definitely missing from the chiller).

The self-service bar was extensive—nothing top shelf but a good selection nonetheless. I heard the Woodford Reserve calling my name, but I figure 7:30 in the morning was a little too early 😛

The Coffee/Tea bar tucked all the way to the back of the lounge had chips and cookies. I treated myself to a bottle of (un-chilled?) milk and a stack of Oreos.

There was an area for what I assumed to be hot food later in the day as well…

I settled in at the bar that has a chiller incorporated in the middle for…well…easy access. And of course, I wouldn’t miss out on a chance to plane-spot through the huge windows.

All in all, the lounge had pretty standard offerings for a British Airways Galleries lounge, though the decor was nice and the atmosphere was relaxing. To be fair, the lounge was completely empty, but even when it gets crowded, I can see it being a pretty good home base at Dulles for those who have Priority Pass as one of their credit card membership perks.

I have access (one-time) with my Lounge Club membership (with Chase Ink). Do you think the limited times would apply to that as well?

Yes—I believe the hours for Lounge Club access is the same as for Priority Pass, 7 am to 2 pm.
