Fly Direct from Anchorage (ANC) to Russia’s Remote Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (PKC)

by Adam

After a two year hiatus, this summer you can once again fly west from Anchorage (ANC) to Russia via Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (PKC) airport. The flights will be operated by Yakutia Airlines on Saturdays from July 11th through August 29th aboard B737-800 aircraft.  The flight time will be approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes.

Wikitravel doesn’t list all that many things to do in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, but for the uniqueness of traveling around the vast Russian western territory, this is pretty cool. About twenty large tourism companies offer a wide range of services from bear hunting to paragliding. Additionally, no roads connect the Kamchatka Peninsula to the rest of the world (it’s actually the second largest city in the world that is unreachable by road).

You can continue working your way east to other small cities before hopping one of Yakutia’s flights to Moscow or St. Petersburg (the city is located 6,766 kilometers (4,204 mi) from Moscow).

That 4.5 hour flight isn’t cheap though…coming in at just over $900.
