After drinking 14 whiskeys with a man she had met at an airport bar, Elizabeth Lander, 26, asked if she could switch seats to sit next to her new male friend on board an Air Canada flight from Toronto (YYZ) to Halifax (YHZ).
Fellow passengers later reported that the two were about to join the “mile-high club,” and crew member John Dunn said he saw a jacket over their laps but couldn’t tell what they were doing. Lander’s underwear was down around her ankles. “The parties were engaged in actions that were described by Mr. Dunn … as mutual masturbation,” Judge Timothy Gabriel said of the incident, which occurred in January last year. Crew members asked her to get dressed and she was met by police at the airport’s gate. Constable Mac Routliffe said she was disruptive, screaming profanities, and kicked him twice.
Lander plead not guilty and claimed she couldn’t remember the incident due to her intoxicated state and stated that she normally would never had done such a thing! The judge didn’t go for it and found her guilty of committing an act of mischief and causing a disturbance that damaged property, as well as assaulting a police officer at the airport.
Jason George Chase, her drinking buddy and mile-high accomplice, plead guilty to the same charges in January.
