Carnival’s Fee for “Enhanced Room Service” Experiment to Expand

by Adam

Back in April, Carnival announced that it was testing an enhanced 24 hour room service menu…for a fee. The Carnival room service fee announcement came just days after Norwegian announced that it was adding a service charge to room service orders. Cruise Critic said at the time that Carnival was hoping to offer cruises better quality and more choices, though free items would still be available:

A statement from the cruise line says new items featured on the menu will include sushi, chicken wings, fried shrimp, quesadillas and personal pizzas, which will range in price from $4 to $7. However, Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen tells us that free selections will still be offered 24/7 via room service; they include hot and cold sandwiches, salads, desserts and Continental breakfast items.

Well it seems like the experiment went well, or that additional data points are needed, as it was announced this week that the enhanced menu will continue to be tested throughout the summer. I’m not a cruiser, but are chicken wings, personal pizzas, and fried shrimp considered “more premium items”?
