Trip Report – Hyatt Place Portland-Old Port – Upscale Accommodation in a Vibrant City!

by Michael

Maine is a stunningly beautiful place year round, and especially in the summer when the weather is impeccable. On a recent trip to the Northeast, we stopped through Portland, Maine and used some Hyatt points for a night in the Hyatt Place Portland-Old Port. We were definitely not disappointed! Portland is a vibrant city with street art, bars, restaurants, great breweries and friendly people. The Hyatt Place Portland-Old Port is centrally located in the heart of it all. In fact, when we looked on Yelp to decide where to walk to dinner that night, there were more than 40 restaurants within a ten minute walk from the hotel!

The Hyatt is on Fore Street, right in the heart of central Portland, in an eclectic and interesting area.

We had the King room with sofa-bed. It was somewhat like a mini-suite with a separation wall that expanded to the length of the bed. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable.

And the beautiful view of Portland Harbor from our room didn’t hurt, either.

The hot breakfast bar was complimentary, which had omelets, bacon and sausage, in addition to fresh fruit, bagels, muffins and cereal. The seating area was large and comfortable.

The Hyatt Place Portland-Old Port is a Category 3 Hyatt hotel, requiring 12,000 points per night for a stay. As Maine is not a cheap place to vacation, and rooms at the Hyatt regularly start above $300. That would give you a value of 2.5 cents per point. I value Hyatt points at slightly under 2 cents per point, so this is a solid value for your Hyatt points.

If you ever venture to Portland, Maine, I highly recommend the Hyatt Place Portland-Old Port. With a great location, friendly staff, comfortable furnishings, great views, and good point redemption value, you can’t do a whole lot better than this. If I am ever back in Portland, I will definitely be returning to the Hyatt Place Portland-Old Port.
