Prepare to Open Your Wallet For a Weekend Here – The 15 Most Expensive Cities For Tourists to Visit

by Michael

Following UBS’ release of their Price and Earnings Report, Business Insider published a study of the 15 most expensive cities for tourists to visit. A “visit” was defined as a two day, one night stay under the following methodology:

In order to come up with these costs, UBS looked at an overnight stay in a first-class hotel for two people, along with two restaurant dinners including a bottle of wine, a taxi ride, two public transport tickets, a rental car, paperback book, phone call, and postage for a letter.

Only two cities from the United States made their way to this list, which came up as follows:

15. Manama, Bahrain: $720
14. Doha, Qatar: $740
13. London, England: $750
12. Miami, Florida: $780 (TIE)
12. Copenhagen, Denmark: $780 (TIE)
10. Dubai, UAE: $790
9. Helsinki, Finland: $800
8. Taipei, Taiwan: $820
7. Munich, Germany: $830
6. Paris, France: $890
5. Oslo, Norway: $980
4. Tokyo, Japan: $1,000
3. Geneva, Switzerland: $1,020
2. New York, NY: $1,030
1. Zurich, Switzerland: $1,050

Many of these are quite predictable, but there are a few surprise entries, such as Manama or Helsinki. There also are a few surprise omissions, like San Francisco, Hong Kong, and perennial contender for World’s Most Expensive City, Moscow.

You can read the Business Insider article here.

Anyone have any other entries that they were surprised were not on this list?

Interesting, but a good idea. I wonder if they even have “first-class” hotels there, or if it is just the mediocre ones which are priced as such.
