Don’t Try to Smuggle Drugs Through Customs at Newark Airport…

by Michael

Most of us bring food on to planes, whether to have our own snack, or to bring food back from other countries to share with our friends and family. That is all well and good. Using your food to disguise 10 pounds of cocaine, however, is most certainly not all well and good.

A U.S. citizen flew in to Newark Airport in New Jersey from Lima, Peru on Sunday, and had his bag checked by customs. After seeing lots of food, they spotted an unusually high number of what looked like oxy pills. Suspicious, the customs officers took the man and his luggage to a private room for further inspection, and found white powder inside the food, which tested positive for cocaine. The nearly 10 pounds of cocaine which was seized, along with the pills, would have an estimated street value of about US $170,000, as reported by NBC 4 New York.

This would sound like a prototypical plot line to an episode of Locked Up Abroad, if he weren’t returning home to the United States.

It takes a true idiot to try to smuggle drugs through international customs nowadays. He certainly deserves whatever punishment the justice system will dish out.
