American’s TWA, Reno and AirCal Retro Heritage Liveries

by Adam

Back in 2013, the newly merged American used their internal Arrivals newsletter to put the new AA livery to a vote.  As we all know, the modified livery (that had already been painted on 200 legacy AA aircraft) ultimately won support and continues to be painted on newly acquired and legacy US and AA aircraft today. That Arrivals newsletter also announced the introduction of heritage liveries at American:

Even as we look to the future, we want to embrace our history because we are proud of it. One way we will do that is through heritage liveries. US Airways has several aircraft in predecessor company liveries today, such as the PSA livery (complete with smile). We will continue that tradition at American, including introducing a TWA aircraft in the future and keeping a US Airways livery aircraft. That also means we will keep a heritage American livery in the fleet. So, regardless of the result of this vote, the AA and eagle will remain represented.

Last September, American revealed their first heritage jet with American branding and then this September, CIO (that’s Integration, not Information) Beverly Goulet presented a slide with the next three liveries – AirCal, Reno Air, and TWA.  According to this thread (and credit for the picture below to winterlight), we should start to see some of these this fall. Which retro livery are you most looking forward to?
