A Drunk Guy Stole a Pizza Hut Delivery Car to Catch His Flight!

by Eric

Add this to the list of moments when reality is actually stranger than fiction! Many of us have been for a flight before, and had to rush to the airport. But wait until you hear what Quinn McElwain, 21, of Vermont, did!

McElwain was reported missing by his friends after he left the Elk Country Inn in Jackson, Wyoming this past Wednesday. Coincidentally, that very evening, a Pizza Hut driver reported that he had left his Toyota RAV4 running outside of the Elk Country Inn, and it had been stolen. If you’re paying attention, I suspect you know where this story is going.

Lt. Cole Nethercott of the Jackson Police Department stated:

“We figured that they would be related. We received some information from his party that it’s possible he’d leave the area and would try to fly out.”

By the time police figured out that McElwain had bought a ticket to Chicago with cash, he was already in transit and had transferred flights in Denver on his way to the Windy City.  Despite driving off with a stolen vehicle, McElwain will most likely not be charged with felony grand theft auto because the police concluded that he did not intend to permanently deprive the owner of the vehicle. Rather, Lt. Nethercott said that he would probably be charged with a misdemeanor, if police pursue charges.
