Over-The-Water Suites Arrive in the Caribbean

by Adam

Coming this November, northeast travelers will be able to experience over-the-water suites a lot closer to home with no travel to Bora Bora, Fiji, or the Maldives required. The first suites are set to open this September at Karisma’s El Dorado Maroma above the water of Riviera Maya’s Maroma Beach. Montego Bay at the Sandals Royal Caribbean resort will see their first over-water suites two months later.

The cheaper option among these adults only all inclusive resorts will certainly be El Dorado Maroma according to USA Today:

Sandals’ (who says they were inspired by the CEO’s honeymoon in the Maldives) will have five Over-the-Water Suites at Sandals Royal Caribbean. While the suites are pricey at $4,321 per night, they’re already proving to be a hit with couples looking for an over-the-top romantic getaway. The major selling point is the suites’ glass floors, making it possible to view marine life scooting past. The suites also have floating water hammocks, private infinity pools, outdoor showers, and king size beds constructed of teak. Guests also receive private boat transfers to and from the resort.

Karisma Hotels & Resorts Palafitos – Overwater Bungalows are on a beautiful setting in Mexico: Riviera Maya’s Maroma Beach, which was voted by Travel Channel as one of the Top 10 Beaches in the World. The 30 bungalows will have glass-bottom floors, direct ladder access to the ocean, outdoor showers, private infinity pools, and indoor Jacuzzis. The Palafitos guests will have access to all of the features and amenities at the on shore resort, while also having their own overwater restaurant and spa, which will specialize in Maya-themed treatments. Guests also have 24-hour room service, reserved beach beds, and full butler service. Rates start at $665 per adult, per night.

There is nothing at any Sandals resort that should ever cost remotely close to $4000/night. Ever.

Totally agree, but I’m sure that these rooms will be discounted at the permanent 65% discount off of rack rates that Sandals uses for all of their resorts as part of their deceptive advertising.

Key Deluxe rooms at Anthony’s Key on Roatan are overwater bungalows and run $266/night per person. Not Sandals-style all inclusive, but includes 3 meals per day.

we were planning a week at Karisma this summer at the regular rooms. We emailed them several times to find out how disruptive the construction of said overwater bungalows would be. They never even bothered to email back. If that is their level of customer service before you commit, I can only imagine how they are when you are captive.
