American & United Agree to First Class Food Competition on Chicago (ORD) to London (LHR) and the winner is…

by Adam

This is actually pretty cool, reporter Lewis Lazare from the Chicago Business Journal, was interested in comparing food in the international first clas cabins on American and United. He needed to find a market where both carriers competed with a First Class product from Chicago for dinner (this is actually American’s only remaining First Class overseas dinner meal service from ORD). Surprisingly, both American and United agreed to cooperate with Lazare for the competition. He ventured out to ORD on two consecutive days to conduct the food fight.

First, I must say that both carriers put on an extraordinarily good show, for which they get my appreciation and thanks. Their presentations convinced me food is certainly not an afterthought in the premium cabins on international flights. Both American and United in recent months have signaled they intend to spend the money necessary to give their high-margin passengers an experience that justifies the price tag.

You forgot to mention there was a three article per month limit on non-subscribers, so most of us will never know who the winner was!
