Could the A350-8 variant spark a new Cathay route from Hong Kong to Miami? According to the Miami Heraldthe lager version of the A350 has local business leaders in Miami pushing for the airline to seriously consider the route.

More than 400,000 passengers flew from Miami to Asia in 2015, according to Sabre Gobal Demand data, according to MIA. To further the effort for an Asian direct flight, the aviation department created the MIA-Asia Task Force last year of 39 community and business groups. A survey commissioned by MIA found 86 local organizations generate more than $20 million in annual travel to Asia.

“A direct flight would be very helpful for potential Chinese investors. We could see increased interest in investments particularly from companies in logistics that move cargo from the around the world into Latin America.”

Could any of the AA 787’s do this route? Seems like it could be a nice route for them too

@Shaun No, they don’t offer the range, as far as I know. Interestingly, the 777-200ER, A340-500 and A380-800 may have the range, but there are probably other parameters involved in why these aircraft aren’t capable of/scheduled to flying this route or similar ones.
