Man Sues TSA Because Security Lines Caused Him To Miss Flight

You knew this was coming. Hooman Nikizad, a Minnesota man, sued the TSA for $506.85 after a 90-minute security line caused him to to miss his March 19 flight from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Los Angeles.

According to court documents, Hooman said:

“I had to buy a ticket with another airline to be able to make to my destination and meet my obligations.”

Hooman is suing for the cost of his ticket and transportation to/from the airport. He said he arrived at the airport about two hours before take-off, as recommended.

  1. It’s a tough call. On the one hand the TSA has become a necessary evil, however the incompetence and short staffing is just unforgivable. I fly over 300,000 miles annually, mostly to Asia. In no other country do you see the lines and the attitude of the US. TSA employees. Are we that much safer, than day passengers on Cathay leaving out of HK or KAL out of Incheon?

    • They are not a necessary evil as it has been show their methods fail at detecting most threats. I’m not saying we don’t need security at the airport, but I bet you my life if you ran analytics you’re in just as much likelihood of an incident now as you were in the 70s. And for the truly spectacular amount of money spent on them, it’s largely waste. Theater. What happens when the next attack happens? They can barely stop a butter knife. Do we double the line length again and pretend it matters?

  2. Sounds reasonable to me. TSA needs to get their act together or get customers and airlines on board with new guidelines for when to arrive at the airport.

  3. Nobody really sympathizes with the TSA, but recommendations are just that. You can’t sue the post office if your letter takes four days instead of three.
    That being said, if a Senator (somehow) missed their flight and attributes it to the TSA, then perhaps something might come of it.

  4. He has no chance of winning, and I suspect he knows that, but if he wants to waste his time and money to make a pointless point, I applaud the effort.

  5. I totally support this action. The TSA wait times are just awful. And nowhere else in the world do you see such unprofessional behaviour from screening agents as you do in the US. They mostly talk among themselves and when they do speak to passengers they bark at them! Yes, JFK terminal 7 I’m talking about you!
