Anthony Bourdain’s Favorite City To Travel To Is…

by Eric

One of the most celebrated travelers is Anthony Bourdain. The star of shows such as No Reservations and Parts Unknown, Bourdain has traveled to over 75 countries and this number increases with every passing episode.

Recently, Bourdain revealed during a Travel+Leisure interview that his favorite destination as a solo traveler is Tokyo, Japan.

“Tokyo is very exciting alone. Every time you need to feed yourself at a restaurant you’re taking the plunge, stepping through the curtains into a room filled with locals, menus in Japanese, feeling awkward and freakish—the tallest guy in the room—having no clue what it is that they’re serving.”

As a chef, Bourdain can appreciate good food better than most, and believes that Japan has some of the best food in the world. He said:

“Ask just about any chef — if you had to be trapped in one country to eat for the rest of your life — they’d all pick Japan.”

Do you agree with Anthony Bourdain?

No I don’t agree with his choice that Tokyo is the best in the world. I could pick China, especially Hong Kong, where international food meets the Chinese Cantonese food with best dim sum & other southern Chinese food. The choice is endless of the best of east meet west.

Although you must eat when you travel, traveling for the sake of food would be foolishness.
I don’t know who Anthony Bourdain is but maybe you’ve chosen the wrong person to celebrate as a traveler. In fact traveling is such a personal venture the concept of celebrating a particular traveler seems absurd to me.

I totally agree with Bourdain. If there is one country i’d visit again and again it will be Japan. Food is superb, transport system is very efficient and the people are disciplined. In the absence of English translation they have picture icons everyone can easily understand.

Yes. The diversity, authenticity and quality of Tokyo’s dining scene is unsurpassed. Plus finding each place is half the adventure each time…. Just thinking about it gives me cravings.
