Wider Seat Plane from Bombardier for Delta & Swiss – 19 Inch Middle Seats & Taller Bathrooms

by Adam

Bombardier’s CS-100 with a 3-2 configuration was on display at the Farnborough Airshow last week. The aircraft can accommodate 108-133 passengers with 18.5 inch wide seats, besides the middle seats which are 19 inches! Bombardier says that the aircraft offers almost 2 inches more room than similarly sized jets from Airbus and Boeing.  The CS-100 also offers taller lavatories.

Delta has agreed to purchase 75 of the aircraft with options for 50 more. Launch customer Swiss is gradually replacing its Avro RJ100 fleet and had its first commercial flight using the aircraft only 3 days ago.

Bombardier told CNBC:

“We wanted people to feel good about flying the aircraft. The concept was to provide a bit more room for people in the middle seat and the good news is we only have one middle seat.”

The extra wide middle seat was one of the plane’s features that was highlighted when we toured Bombardier’s development centre a few years ago on one of the STAR MegaDos in Montreal. Along with ensuring we checked out the rear washrooms on the mock-up.
