Now won’t this be a nice change for the passenger! The Atlanta-Journal Constitution has reported that a measure signed into law recently will require airlines to refund your baggage fees if your bags happen to be delayed!
According to a statement from Senator John Thune (South Dakota), “passengers won’t have to spend a ton of time tracking down a refund when the airline doesn’t deliver.” This new measure was put in a Federal Aviation Administration re-authorization extension bill, and clearly indicates that the U.S. Transportation Secretary is to issue regulations on the matter within 1 year.
These regulations would make airlines have to “promptly provide to a passenger an automated refund for any ancillary fees paid by the passenger for checked baggage” in the event that their bag(s) is not delivered within 12 hours following the arrival of a domestic flight, and 15 hours of an international flight. The best part is that this is supposed to be automatic, without any intervention from the passenger!
How do you feel about this new baggage regulation?
