You Can Now Get From Newark to Midtown Manhattan for Only $35

by Eric

For many New Yorkers, flying in and out of Newark Airport can be a hassle if you happen to be traveling to midtown Manhattan. There is always the AirTrain, but if you happen to have a lot of luggage or are traveling with others, then having to transfer at Penn Station may be too much trouble.

Uber has just announced that they are offering “a $35 uberPOOL flat rate for rides from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Manhattan, below 59th Street.”

According to Uber, simply select the uberX option when at Newark Airport and set your pickup/dropoff locations. If your destination is in Manhattan, below 59th Street, you should see a $35 uberPOOL option. This fare is guaranteed regardless of whether you’re matched with another uberPOOL traveler, or not!

Not a bad deal, but I recently took an UberX from EWR to Manhattan and it was only $45, so this seems about the price an UberPool would be. I guess making it a flat rate simplifies things for users. Thanks for posting!

Do you mean select Uber X or Uber Pool? You wrote “select Uber X”

Uber’s app can be confusing. In their most recent app versions, the “uberPOOL” option does not exist. Riders must first select “uberX” and once they have entered their pickup/destination locations, they are then presented with the uberPOOL and uberX rate options.

I just tried this out now. I’m not getting an option for UberPool and I did select Uber X. I don’t know if it’s glitchy, but I’ll leave a comment on the Google Play Store see what’s the issue here…Thanks for sharing the info…

Also, is this in effect now? This will come in handy as I will coming from Newark airport into the city soon…

Make sure you have updated to the latest version of the app.

Yes, according to Uber, this flat $35 rate is live!

@Cat, I believe the UberPool option (aside from the geographic restrictions in NYC) is only available between 7-10am and 5-8pm Mon-Fri (weekdays). I took Amtrak to Penn Station last Wednesday and was (pleasantly) surprised to learn about it. Although identifying and getting into the right Uber car(s) was my biggest challenge.

No you can always get Uber pool. The commuter fares are limited to those hours.

That’s if drivers actually WANT to drive from EWR to Manhattan. Picking up from EWR is already risking a fine.
