Vegas Casinos Now Cheating You out of Free Alcohol – Small Shot Pours and Voucher Requirements

by Adam

MGM recently began charging as much as $10 per day for parking at their strip properties, prompting the NY Post  to publish an article lamenting the new charges as well as those pesky resort fees. However, they also sadly note changes to the free booze that’s normally provided while playing table games and slots:

According to Vegas’ ABC affiliate, bartenders at MGM properties began shortchanging guests on the hooch-to-mixer ratio by “decreasing shot pours.” Now they’re making it so that the bar-top slot and video poker machines decide when you’ve gambled enough to warrant a free drink by spitting out cocktail vouchers. The old, pre-Pavlovian system would have tip-hungry bartenders pouring refills whenever you seemed to be running low.

Covers does a good job breaking down the changes and provides examples of different bars at the same property having varying complimentary policies.

MGM Resorts released a statement about using 1.25-ounce pours and claim that’s the norm in Las Vegas casinos. This insinuates that it’s probably not just MGM who are short pouring drinks. There are ways to avoid this but the simplest is to just drink beer or wine. Last year many of the Las Vegas casinos started tightening complimentary drink offerings at the video poker bars. This used to be a free-for-all where bartenders would give anyone that put any money in a video poker machine complimentary drinks no matter how much they were playing.

Just like hotels and airlines the strip is just beginning to suck every possible income out of visitors. Simply a fact of life, people are not gambling as they once did, first it was room rates, restaurants, now parking fees and booze seems to be next. It will continue as the Strip once again beings reinventing itself.

Absolutely outrageous! I’m a Brit now a Vegas resident and I think it’s disgusting. Not only the parking fees but now the drink situation too. Well they can at least make the slots loser. Yeah right…
Vegas gonna lose its appeal. No comps, not as many visitors. It will become too much especially at the prices they charge. Greedy Greedy Greedy

Wait so you are upset about the amount of free stuff they are giving you?!? Has anyone realized Gaming is not the reason people come to Vegas anymore. They come to Vegas because it’s Vegas. Being able to play blackjack and get free drinks in secondary in 2017.
