Check If Your Chase Sapphire Reserve Bonus Will Post On Next Statement

by Enoch

There was so much excitement surrounding the Chase Sapphire Reserve that it’s even made it to mainstream media. One of the reason is that Chase launched the card with a monster 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points sign-up bonus. You can use those points to redeem for $1,500 worth of travel from Chase. Alternatively, you can transfer them to partners like United, Southwest, British Airways, or Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio.

To earn the bonus, you have to spend $4,000 within 3 months of account opening. This might sound like a lot of money (and it is!), but with a reward worth at least $1,500, it’s definitely worth doing.

Chase has an Ultimate Rewards page to show you the details of your account. You can redeem points, transfer them to partners, to check how much of the annual travel credit you’ve used. Apparently, Chase also shows you if your bonus is ready to post in your next statement!

This morning, I logged into my account to find that Chase has added 100,000 points to my “earning on next statement!”

Sure, you can always just add up all your spending to see where you stand, but this is a nice (and may I argue, pretty reassuring) trick to see if you’re getting your bonus soon!

If you have other Chase Ultimate Rewards cards, they will show a separate points balance. Using the portal, you can combine them into any account you wish. However, you can only transfer points to partner from a Ultimate Rewards account (Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink, etc.)

I met the 4K spend the day I opened the card by paying the annual taxes on my house. Yet, points to post next statement only match the dollar amt spent, do not show the 100K bonus. Should I call Chase now to confirm the bonus or that the transaction counts for meeting the spend, or wait to see if it posts a bonus when my statement closes in 3 weeks?

All $4,000 must have been posted for any bonus to show up, and assuming that it has, I’d still give them some time. Sadly Chase is unlikely to able to do anything until the statement closes, since the UR portal only shows a projection. All purchases (i.e. not cash advances and minus refunds) should count toward the minimum spend, though!

Do you have any updates on this? Did you have to wait until after three months or did you receive it after your statement close to receive your 100,000 points?

Not yet, but I made a purchase on hotels.com and did receive my $300 travel credit already!
(Yes, I do points and miles, but no chain hotels in an obscure part of Italy!)

On a semi related topic… regarding the $300 credit for travel related expenses. Does anyone know if buying, say a SWA gift card from the SWA WEB site, would qualify?

Does anyone know if paying a realtor for a vacation rental counts as travel?
