American DFW to Rome and Amsterdam Flights Now Bookable

Just a few days ago, American Airlines announced that they will be launching service from Dallas-Ft. Worth to Rome and Amsterdam. This is a seasonal service that will operate from May to September. American has been expanding its Dallas hub like crazy; it’s almost like they want to develop it into a super hub like Delta did with Atlanta.

Well, it looks like these new flights are already bookable. The service to Rome will be operated by a 777-200, complimenting the existing year-round service from Philadelphia, as well as seasonal services from Charlotte, Chicago, and New York. On the other hand, Amsterdam will see a new 767-300 from Dallas, which currently only has a year-round service from Philadelphia.

Looking at the schedule for non-stop flights from Dallas to Rome, it appears both services will launch on May 5.

The prices are overall pretty high in Economy right now, but Business Class fares are relatively competitive. Keep in mind, though, that the 777-200 operating this route offers angled flat seats in Business. As an example, for the random set of dates, June 15 to June 23, it costs $2461 in Economy, and $3176 in Business.

As far as I can tell, award seats are not yet available on either of these flights yet. However, upgrades to First Class on the Rome route is wide open, with 7 spots every day. These upgrade availability are for Executive Platinum members using systemwide upgrades, or for Business Class passengers upgrading with points and copay. I don’t think American is really selling that many international First Class seats nowadays, so this is hardly surprising.
