BoozeGate: How United Forgot to Renew Liquor License at Newark & Went Dry for 2 Days

by Adam

United’s liquor license at Newark needed to be renewed this year and Newark sent the airline a renewal package back in May.  The airline never returned it and their license expired on June 30th. Sodexo (who runs the United lounges at Newark) didn’t realize the mistake until last week when the clubs stopped service alcohol right away. So on Wednesday and Thursday, the two United Clubs in Terminal C were dry. The club in Terminal A is technically in Elizabeth, NJ and would have been able to continue serving alcohol, but it’s closed for construction!  No worries though, by Friday morning cocktails were flowing again at both lounges. A United representative issued the following statement on Friday:

“We resumed service this morning and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
