Some passengers at Chicago O’Hare got a pretty nice surprise today, when Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles showed up unexpectedly at the gate. Biles, who is sponsored by United, appeared unannounced for a United promotion. She scanned boarding passes, made gate announcements, and even got on an Ohio-bound flight to jokingly announce that the flight was headed to Rio de Janeiro.

Simone Biles also did a few “odd jobs” around the airport, loading bags and mingling with ground operation staff members. Many passengers and staff alike also had the opportunity to take some photos with the 19-year-old gymnast, and it looks like everyone had a blast!

United, of course, is the official sponsor of the U.S. Olympics team, and has been for 35 years. This year, athletes flew to Brazil from United’s Houston hub, and United also featured many athletes in its ads. It looks like Simone Biles was there to shoot a promotional video, and Biles herself tweeted about her experience “learning the ropes”:

So if a 19 year old gynnast can do just about any job at United except fly the plane, can you please explain why they need to employ tens of thousands of people at union wages?
