RadPad is Ending Rent Payments Tomorrow

by Enoch

Effective tomorrow, RadPad will no longer be processing and making rent payments. Previously, users could pay their rent with a credit card, even if their landlord or management company didn’t accept it. They will pay RadPad, who will then issue a check to their landlord on the user’s behalf.

Via Reddit user level202:

Hi , We wanted to let you know that effective Thursday, October 13, 2016, we will no longer be processing and paying rent payments As a current RadPad rent payer, RadPad will no longer be making rent payments for you. Effective immediately, you will need to find an alternative for making your rent payments. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. On Monday, October 31, 2016, your RadPad payment account, which includes your payment information, landlord’s information, and rent payment history will be permanently deleted. Thank you very much for allowing us to pay your rent. Sincerely, Team RadPad

RadPad charged a 2.99% fee with credit card payments, but it was an easy (albeit not free) way to meet minimum spend for sign-up bonuses. Some people were also able to find ways to earn extra points; for example, using the Chase Sapphire Reserve card with Android Pay or Apple Pay would count as “travel” and thus earned 3x points.

RadPad started as an app where prospective tenants could look for new properties, and they rolled out the rent payment feature in September 2014. However, just a few weeks ago, the service was reportedly going through a rough time. Some users reported online that checks sent to landlords were returned due to insufficient funds. While one of the purported co-founder commented on Reddit, saying that’s not the case, it now seems like the company may have been in the midst of financial woes.

In the meantime, Plastiq remains a good choice for people looking to pay rent with a credit card. The process is similar to RadPad, and you can pay just about anyone who provided you with goods and services. You input the payee, their information, and pay with a credit card. Plastiq will then send a check on your behalf in 5 – 7 business days. Plastiq charges 2% with MasterCard payments and 2.5% with Visa and American Express payments.

Thanks for the info. I actually used the referral link that you provided in your article, and it doesn’t seem to have applied any “Fee-Free Dollars” to my account, I wonder if it did yours. I signed up using the link on Dec. 3.

Hi Elyse! The fee-free dollars will post after you’ve made your first payment.
