Havana Will Be JetBlue’s 100th City, Fares from $54 One-Way

by Enoch

JetBlue just announced their routes to Havana, which will be JetBlue’s 100th destination. The airline will start flying non-stop between the US and Havana at the end of November, with the following flights.

  • New York (JFK)
    • B6 243: JFK – HAV, 0858/1305, daily
    • B6 242: HAV – JFK, 1420/1733, daily
  • Orlando (MCO)
    • B6 503: MCO – HAV, 0826/1000, daily
    • B6 1004: HAV – MCO, 1130/1250, daily
  • Fort. Lauderdale (FLL)
    • B6 1499: FLL – HAV, 1214/1345, daily
    • B6 1500: HAV – FLL, 1500/1616, daily
    • B6 799: FLL – HAV, 0754/0915, daily except Saturdays
    • B6 800: HAV – FLL, 1045/1202, daily except Saturdays

The airline was the first to operate a commercial flight to Cuba in over 50 years, when they flew from Ft. Lauderdale to Santa Clara at the end of August. Airlines were approved to operate commercial flights between the US and Cuba, but flights to the capital city of Havana were subject to a cap. For that reason, we are only now seeing announcements from airlines regarding their Havana launches.

JetBlue will be launches these flights sequentially, staring with the New York – Havana flight, which will launch on November 28. This is the same day that American Airlines is set to begin flying between Miami (MIA) and Havana. JetBlue’s flights between Orlando and Havana will launch a day later, on November 29. On the same day, United will start flying between Newark (EWR) and Havana. Finally, the two services from Ft. Lauderdale will kick in November 30 and December 1, just in time as Delta and Spirit launch their flights to Havana.

The tickets for these flights are already on sale, and JetBlue is offering fares as low as $54, between Orlando or Ft. Lauderdale to Havana.

Flights between New York and Havana cost a little more, but still reasonably inexpensive at $99 one-way. You can even get on the inaugural flight at that price!

I wrote last week about the fact that many American Airlines flights to Cuba are going out half empty, and some flights even left with just 12 passengers. One of the reasons might be because travels to Cuba for tourism purposes are still not allowed; another might because many people are holding out for flights to/from Havana. With Havana services launching soon, we should be able to see how these routes do in a few months!
