Six Flags or Cedar Fair Coming to Florida to Challenge Disney & Universal?

by Adam

Could Disney or Universal soon be seeing competition from a Six Flags or Cedar Fair park in their own Orland0 backyard? According to The Orlando Sentinel‘s Growth Spotter it’s definitely a possibility. According to the report, a large theme park developer with no presence in the area is negotiating for 200 acres near Universal. They’d be teaming with international partners to develop the site with a theme park, a water park, and hotels.  Another potential contender is Palace Entertainment who is owned by Spain’s Parques Reunidos and owns Kenywood and Lake Compounce.

The Motely Fool reports that any of the above companies would likely present a less expensive theme park option for a cost conscious customer:

Six Flags or Cedar Fair staking a claim on Floridian soil would likely result in a park that charges much less for single-day admissions and annual passes than the leading national theme parks. This would eat into the visits from locals, and it could be a pretty big deal given the land’s proximity to Comcast’s Universal Orlando resort. We’re in the early stages of this story, but it could be one that resets the theme park scene and value proposition in Central Florida.

Umm I wouldn’t travel to Florida, just to go to a Six Flags or Cedar Fair park, since those are spread in our back yards all over the country. I would go to Orlando to experience Disney, Universal and SeaWorld. Those are parks that present a quality immersive experience, which is why we pay more.

Since I live in Alabama, Six Flags over Georgia is less than a 2 hour drive away, I would not travel to Florida just to go to another Six Flags.

I may be wrong here but maybe they are not building a theme park exclusively for you.

What about people that already live in Orlando or the fact that Orlando is one of the world’s biggest tourist attractions?

Nope, they are no good Cedar Fair ruined Northeast Ohio they destroyed a very well-known amusement park Geauga Lake. We no longer have anything fun to do in the area because they bought it did not do anything good with it and then they shut it down now it is nothing but a piece of land with nothing on it. It’s going to be redeveloped into businesses and other things rather than putting up a new Park for Northeast Ohio residents. Cedar Fair should be banned from doing anything. They destroy history and Heritage.

Actually Brian it was Six Flags that ruined that park. They tried to compete with Cedar Point by bringing in a bunch of rides and it failed. They were losing money at the park because the new rides didn’t bring in the revenue they thought it would. So they sold it off and wasn’t any better. You don’t operate something the doesn’t bring in a profit.

Don’t listen to him Brian. Cedar Fair bought Geauga Lake to close it. They did it out of greed to get people going to Cedar Point. They manipulated the minds of the people by keeping the park open for 3 more years. Last month Cedar Fair became more famous for destroying the 10th oldest roller coaster in the world. They wanted the Big Dipper destroyed and they lied about the coaster’s condition. Roller coaster engineers examined the Big Dipper last year and determined that it could be saved. They refused offers to buy the coaster out of greed. They even refused an offer last month from the National Roller Coaster Museum & Archives. That sure is a great to treat their friends at ACE. ACE has given Cedar Fair so much support and trust despite them closing the park and abandoning it’s crown jewel. How does Cedar Fair thank ACE? By destroying one of their ACE Coaster Landmarks. Cedar Fair destroyed the future of the NRCMA. Geauga Lake would have been home to the museum and the Big Dipper would have been restored.

I wouldn’t trust that company at all, they purchased Geauga Lake in Ohio it was an amusement park it was historical and they shut it down without notice and they sold all the rides and walked away now we have no more music parks in Northeast Ohio because of them.

We currently live in Orlando and I wouldn’t mind another park. We are theme park junkies. They are all so different.

The problem is that everytime that a hurricane occurred in the Atlantic Ocean it would cost millions if not billions of dollars for the damages of the hurricane

A new thrill park would be amazing. I live in Florida, but I moved here from Ohio, so I am used to being surrounded by amazing Cedar Fair parks such as Kings Island and Cedar Point. All of the parks down here really don’t hit the point when it comes to good rides, and I’m sure there are plenty of people who agree with me. I don’t care about these “themed parks” like Disney and such, I really think a thrill park would be a great touch down here. It would really be set apart from the other parks, and be a big hit. We need some REAL rollercoasters please.

I completely agree with you as someone who used to live near Cedar Point and now live in Orlando.
