EVA Air Business Class Sale – North America to Asia, Even for the Holidays!

by Enoch

EVA Air has a pretty amazing Business Class product, which they call Royal Laurel, as I have reviewed before. They offer reverse herring bone seats, with a flat bed and direct aisle access for all passengers. They provide Rimowa amenity kits and pajamas for Business Class passengers, and serve some pretty great champagne, like a Krug Rose on my Houston to Taipei flight.

EVA Air is running a sale for travel from Toronto (YYZ) or Vancouver (YVR) to a number of Asian cities, with fares at CAD 3,999 (or around US$2,972). This is definitely not an amazing price, but is a pretty good deal if you are looking to book a flight to Asia anyway. You will have to book before November 14, 2016, and must fly between now and May 15, 2017.

  • Taipei (TPE)
  • Bangkok (BKK)
  • Manila (MNL)
  • Cebu (CEB)
  • Ho Chi Minh City (SGN)
  • Hanoi (HAN)
  • Phnom Penh (PNH)
  • Singapore (SIN)
  • Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
  • Denpasar (DPS)
  • Jakarta (CGK)
  • Surabaya (SUB)
  • Hong Kong (HKG)
  • Macau (MFM)

I was able to find some good prices even around peak season; there are even flights flights at the advertised price around the holidays. For example, you can spend Christmas in Singapore and fly in style for less than $3,000.

These tickets book into “D” fare class, and carry a CAD150 (~US$111) refund or change fee. Since EVA Air is part of Star Alliance, there is a number of partners you can credit their miles to. Flying transpacific in paid Business Class can also be a huge status booster.

One particularly interesting one is Lufthansa’s Miles & More program, which awards miles based on 200% the distance flownFor the Toronto to Singapore trip, you’d earn 38,060 redeemable miles. Miles & More levies fuel surcharges, but has a few sweet spots, and is the only program that has access to Lufthansa First Class seats more than 2 weeks out. For instance, round-trip from the US to Europe costs just 50,000 miles (for other North America – Europe flights, it’s 60,000 miles). You can fly on a Star Alliance carrier with lower fuel surcharges, like LOT Polish Airlines. You can also redeem 35,000 miles for travel between the US and Central America or the Caribbeans with no fuel surcharge.

Again, this is not cheap by any means and won’t be a mileage run kind of deal. But it’s actually a pretty reasonable fare for trans-pacific Business Class travel, especially in EVA Air’s really solid product.

For those in the US and can’t position yourself to Toronto or Vancouver, EVA Air is also running a sale for flights from their US gateways. You can fly to the same cities as above from Los Angeles (LAX), San Fransisco (SFO), New York (JFK), Seattle (SEA), Houston (IAH), or Chicago (ORD). These, however, start at US$3,999, which is not as good of a deal. The terms and similar, and you will have to book by November 14, 2016 and travel by May 15, 2017.
