Barclays Sends 94K AAdvantage Miles to “Black Hole”, Refuses to Fix Until ABC News Steps In

by Adam

Imagine earning miles on your card each month, seeing them appear on the statement, but then noticing that they are missing from your frequent flyer account. That’s what happened to one AAdvantage Aviator Business MasterCard by Barclaycard customer…to the tune of 94,198 miles. He says for months the miles were properly reflected on his statement, but somehow failed to make it over to AAdvantage. He called Barclaycard numerous times and verified his AAdvantage number, everything was correct and the agents could see the miles, however “no one was able to put them in his account”. He received the run-around and felt totally helpless until he reached out to ABC News for their assistance. They contacted executives at Barclaycard who had the miles restored and added a 20K bonus for his trouble. The bank says it was a data error that was not widespread and was caused after they inherited the card product.

PS – Someone needs to teach ABC News about properly valuing redemptions – “94K miles, enough for more than 3 cross-country roundtrip flights”

On Delta, 94,000 points might not be enough for ONE transcon.
