Disney’s Epcot Set for Changes

by Adam

Epcot opened in 1982 and was inspired by an unrealized working city concept by Walt Disney. Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, was to be a utopian city – “EPCOT will take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry. It will be a community of tomorrow that will never be completed, but will always be introducing, and testing, and demonstrating new materials and new systems. And EPCOT will always be a showcase to the world of the ingenuity and imagination of American free enterprise.”

That idea never came to fruition, but the park was created with two sections – Future World (8 pavilions) and World Showcase (11 different countries). Epcot is currently the 3rd most visited in North America and is actually larger than the Magic Kingdom. It is often thought of as the more educational and cultural of Disney’s Orlando offerings, though more rides and characters have been added in recent times.

Well, the Orlando Sentinel reports that those types of changes will be accelerated at Epcot with a major transformation coming. Visitors should expect less of a focus on exhibits and learning and more of the rides and characters typically experienced at Disney. A Ratatouille ride coming to France? A Marvel ride to replace the Energy Adventure? Those are two of the rumors.
