Cathay Pacific To Launch Seasonal Flights to Barcelona

by Enoch

Cathay Pacific is taking more deliveries of the Airbus A350, and they have recently been launching new destinations and bumping up frequencies as a result of that. A few months ago, they announced new service to Tel Aviv, and in the coming summer, they will be offering six daily flights between Hong Kong and London.

Just today, Cathay Pacific announced that they will also be launching new service to Barcelona starting July 2017. This is going to be a seasonal service to boot, but presumably if the demand is good, it might become a year-round route for them. Flights are scheduled from July to October, with the inaugural on July 2. Here is the timetable for the flights, which will operate Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

  • CX 321: Hong Kong (HKG) to Barcelona (BCN) – 0020/0735
  • CX 322: Barcelona (BCN) to Hong Kong (HKG) – 1350/0805+1

There are currently no direct flights between Barcelona (BCN) and Hong Kong (HKG), so Cathay Pacific’s new service will at least be good news to many Hong Kongers (as long as the airport remains clean and tidy…) Barcelona also doesn’t have many direct links to Asia to begin with; Singapore Airlines currently operates flights to Singapore, Air China has flights to Beijing, and PIA operates two routes to Pakistan.

Korean Air is set to begin service to Seoul in April, and with Cathay Pacific’s new flight, there will be more options for passengers journeying to/from Asia. Cathay Pacific has a pretty phenomenal Business Class hard product on the A350, so some business travelers might get to enjoy more options.

42,500 Alaska miles for over 10 hours in CX business onboard an A350 is a helluva deal me thinks!
Thinking of crediting my Emirates biz class flights to Alaska MP to take advantage of this reward.
How’s the award availability on the TLV-HKG/HKG-TLV route looking?
