Richard Branson Coming to Seattle…for Delta / Virgin Atlantic, Not Alaska / Virgin America

Well this is awkward! Virgin Atlantic is set to launch their Seattle (SEA) to London (LHR) route on March 26th with a brand new 787-9 Dreamliner, Delta previously served the route with a B767. The always fun Richard Branson will be in town to throw an invite only party at Q Nightclub to commemorate the new flight and to celebrate with Virgin Atlantic and Delta (who owns 49 percent of Virgin Atlantic) executives.

Of course, Seattle is also home to Alaska Airlines who acquired Virgin America last year despite Branson’s objections. Currently, Alaska management is still debating how long they will continue to license the Virgin brand, supposedly at a cost of over $10M last year.

According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, Branson could potentially travel to Seattle simply to see the flight off and to attend the Virgin Atlantic / Delta party without meeting with any Alaska and Virgin America executives.

Halley Knigge spokeswoman for Alaska, declined to say if Branson would be meeting any senior Alaska or Virgin America executives to discuss the future of the branding and licensing deal.
