What? United & American Fight For Best On-Time Arrival…Delta Still #1

by Adam

It’s no surprise that Delta was once again first among the big four domestic carriers in on-time performance in March, blowing away the competition with an 82.3% on-time arrival rate. Southwest finished 2nd at 79.6%, but the big story was the fight for 3rd between American and United. American ultimately won by hair, coming in at 78.1% compared to United’s 77.9%. Both carriers have been working hard in recent months to cut the gap between them and Delta and American even finished second in February with an impressive 84.3% on-time factor…potentially leaving passengers at the gate.

I’m chuckling at this because these airlines have noticeably (very) padded their schedules in the past few years publishing 2 hour flights as 2:30 to 2:45 and so on. They’re not any more “on time.” They’ve simply found a loophole.
