15% off Turkish Airlines Flights With App Bookings

by Enoch

It’s no secret that discounts on airfares are hard to come by. Online booking tools like Google Flights (our guide here) have made price comparisons easier, though true promotions that knock airfares down are extremely rare. Even when “coupon codes” pop up, they frequently offer less than 5% of a discount, and often come with a lot of restrictions.

That’s why the new Turkish Airlines promotion is so noteworthy. From now until January 20, 2018, you can get a 15% discount on Turkish Airlines airfares by booking with their app. This applies to both Business and Economy class bookings.

Turkish Airlines flies to more countries than any other airline in the world, so there’s no shortage of destinations to explore. I also consider Turkish Airlines to have one of the best international Business Class products out there in terms of value—you can check out my review here. They offer amazing in-flight dining services, a comfortable bed, and plenty of entertainment options. Their Lounge Istanbul is also a sight to behold, with plenty to do for a long layover, though it might be a bit too hectic as a lounge at times. Even their intra-Europe Business Class is dramatically better than their competitors, especially considering they offer a real Business Class product and not just a blocked middle seat.

Take 15% off Turkish Airlines Base Airfare on App Bookings

For a discount that significant, there are surprisingly few restrictions. You will have to book by January 20, 2018, but can travel one-way or round-trip, in either Economy and Business Class, through the end of 2018. Here are the fine prints:

• Discounted offer is applied to base fare, (taxes, fees, surcharges etc. will be excluded) and subject to availability (due to limited seating capacity).
• Special offer prices may change subject to currency fluctuation.
• Discount is valid only on Turkish Airlines flights.
• The discount amount may vary for children and infants.
• Rebooking, cancelation, refund terms are subject to the fare rules of the booking class.
• Turkish Airlines has the right to change promotion conditions.
• Other restrictions may apply depending on route and travel dates.
• For further information/assistance please contact a Turkish Airlines Sales Office or Call Center.

On the Turkish app, you will have to go all the way to almost completing your booking on the phone, and then click on the “Get the Discount” button. If the button doesn’t show up, you can manually input the discount code TKSMART18 to get the discount.

Use this Deal for Business Class Travel for the Best Discount

Just as an example, here we have an airfare for round-trip travel from New York-JFK to Tel Aviv (TLV). If you book through Turkish Airlines’ website, the price comes out to $2306 for these dates in Business Class. This isn’t a bad price to begin with.

A roundtrip Business Class ticket between New York and Tel Aviv would be $2306 without the discount.

A roundtrip Business Class ticket between New York and Tel Aviv would be $2306 without the discount.

However, by booking through the Turkish app, you can take 15% off the base fare (i.e. taxes, surcharges, and other fees are excluded). This knocks the price down from $2306 to $2041, a $265 saving (a net of ~11.5% off). This is a really good discount.

Using the app takes 15% off your Turkish Airlines airfare (base fare only).

If you were to book the same flights in Economy, it would cost you $650 on the website. Again, not a bad price to begin with. However, by booking through the Turkish app, the price drops to $624. This is a pretty puny discount of $26 (a net of 4% off). That’s because the base fare in Economy Class is only $180, while the rest is made up of taxes/fees and fuel surcharges. However, with how rare discounts on airfares are, I’d say that 4% is still notable.

Takeaway

This is a pretty significant discount with relatively few restrictions. Flying in Business Class will yield you the most significant discount, since the base fare simply makes up a greater portion of the total airfare. However, even those in coach will see a sizable discount, especially considering how rare they otherwise are.

The discount expires in two days, so we don’t have a lot of leeway in terms of planning. However, if you have an international trip in mind, I’d definitely comparison shop with other airlines, as well as with Turkish after the 15% discount.

I’m generally not a fan of using airline apps for bookings. I feel like with purchases of this magnitude, I want all the details available to me on one screen. However, mobile apps allow airlines to create a relatively isolated environment, where comparison shopping is a bit harder, so it’s perhaps why Turkish is only offering this discount with in-app bookings.
