United Passengers Stunned & Crying as Puppy Death Is Blamed on Flight Attendant Forcing Dog into Overhead Bin

by Adam

A Monday night United flight from Houston to New York ended in extreme sadness for many passengers as a 10-month old puppy died after a United flight attendant forced the dog into an overhead compartment. Witnesses say the flight attendant forced the owner to put the pet carrier with the dog inside in the overhead bin for the entire duration of the flight. Two passengers retold their stories on social media as they witnessed the owner “sitting in the airplane aisle on the floor, crying, while all of the surrounding passengers were utterly stunned.”:

United Airlines said it takes “full responsibility” for the pug’s death and is investigating.  The rules are quite clear in this situation, dogs under 20 lbs are allowed to be in the cabin as long as the carrier fits underneath the site, which it did in this case.  The DoT reports that from January 2012-February 2017, 53 animals died on United flights, a third of all in-flight animal fatalities.

The flight attendant was an idiot and criminal charges should be filed against her. However, the owner is a total fool. I would never stick my dog in an overhead bin. Would you stick your dog in the trunk of your car? I would try to reason with the attendant, then get the captain involved and if that didn’t work I would raise hell and be kicked off the plane. If they deny service they have to refund your tickets. I would then book a flight on another airline.
