Old 737 Now a Bustling Cafe for Weddings & Bdays – Serves Organic Honey Wine Produced in a Hive w/ Wild Bees On-Board

by Adam

Back in 2014, a Addis Ababa entrepreneur purchased a decommissioned Ethiopian Airlines 737 and decided to covert it into a cafe.  The purchase, movement, renovation, construction, and design of the cafe cost $1.5 million USD. The restaurant is located in Burayu, about 9 miles west of the capital and is able to serve 60 individuals at a time. Today, the restaurant is bustling!

Last month, the BBC visited the cafe and shot the video below.  Interestingly enough, most people visit for the traditional drink of honey wine. It’s completely organic and the honey is made with bees who nest in the back of the plane in the former on-board ovens…apparently on their own.

The 737 is now a popular place for weddings and birthdays! Check out the BBCs short video on the 737 below.
