JAL Celebrates 1,600 New Employees by Releasing Thousands of Paper Airplanes in the Air

by Adam

Today was the initiation ceremony at Haneda Airport for over 1,600 new staff at Japan Airlines. The new hires come from across the 33 different companies that make up  the Japan Airlines group. The airline’s new president, Yuji Akasaka, was also in attendance.  Akasaka, formerly the managing executive officer in charge of engineering and maintenance, was promoted following former president Yoshiharu Ueki’s move to chairman. Most credit Ueki with helping the airline recover from bankruptcy over his 6 year tenure in the position.

The ceremony included a moment of silence giving the new hires time to reflect while bowing their heads.  It all came to a conclusion when the new employees each released a paper airplane in the air to to celebrate!
