You know Rio de Janeiro … but do you know Punta del Este? You know Rome…but do you know Siena? You know Beijing… but do you know Xi’an? Having visited and enjoyed seven of the ten on the list, I agree with most of these from The Huffington Post, though I wouldn’t necessarily consider some of them “off the beaten path”.

Ask a random person and they can easily rattle off the famous cities around the world, and the list will undoubtedly include New York, Paris, and London. Paris is Paris and London is London, but that shouldn’t mean it’s the only city worth checking out. If you’re already planning to shell out the cash to fly across the pond – or even the world – these lesser-known places deserve adding to your itinerary. They’re way cooler than most people think.

Check out the full list here.

I have been to Xian. You can take a overnight non-stop train w/ bunk beds to Xian and then rent a private car to take you to the Terra Cotta warriors. The Sheraton Xian is very nice property. The city is very clean and very family friendly. I went to a two stories Pizza Hut that was as clean as a Michelin star restaurants w/o any attitude of the young staff in the Western fast foods staff.
Also, very nice Muslim part of the city where you can have scrumptious Lamb braised w/ local spices and good shopping around the corners…

This is a worthwhile list to aspire to but the overrated list at the end that disses Chicago, San Francisco, Austin and Berlin is just misguided……i’ve been a few times to each to those and they all offer some world class features……..but what can you expect from LA slanted Huffington Post……..
