There has been conflicting information the last few weeks as to whether Delta was truly axing the proposed walking bridge that would connect their domestic operations at Terminal 2 with their yet to be completed international base at Terminal 4. NYCAviation ran an article in October noting that “…earlier renderings of the project included a long bridge connecting Terminals 2 and 4. Planners finally decided against it for being too long a walk for passengers. Instead, buses will run between the terminals airside, which means you don’t have to go through security again.” Even with the supposed confirmation, someone claiming to be involved with construction commented on airliners.net that this was just not true and the bridge construction would proceed as planned. Then yesterday, itsaboutthejourney commented in the Delta Flyertalk forum that the “JFK T2-T4 airside connecter is not happening. DL is securing fancy new busses to hold over until the lease ends on T2 and/or further expansion is made to T4. Not worth it to spend big $$ on a connector. Insiders tell me the T2-T4 bus will be extremely frequent and will likely, soon after the closure of T3, use a travel path that will avoid many of the aircraft conflicts that the current bus route contend with today. There also will be a purpose built lower level bus facility at T4 to support the inter-terminal busing.” There has been no official comment from Delta at this point. One thing’s for sure, Delta’s own T4 expansion page makes no mention of the connector, unlike it’s LGA renovation page which specifically mentions the walkway between Terminals C & D. If the rumors are in fact true, which seems more likely than not, I hope that Delta truly does increase the frequency and capacity of the buses. I’ve waited over 20 minutes for a bus to arrive and then had the fun of the “push and fight” to secure a space on the bus in order to avoid having to wait another 20 minutes for the next shuttle.
