American to Operate Near-Hourly Shuttle Service on JFK-LAX

Lindsay Lohan may have an easier time actually making a flight from JFK-LAX the next time she’s required to show up in court, all thanks to AA’s future near-hourly shuttle service on their JFK-LAX route. According to a story in Bloomberg Businessweek, American is planning to launch a shuttle service of sorts from JFK to LAX some time in early 2014. AA plans to utilize their new A321s on the route, replacing the current B767s and reducing the number of seats per flight from 168 to 102. With the service, AA plans to increase their daily frequencies from the current 8-10 trips to a number in the low-mid teens. They’ll also be upping their premium services on the route, providing a better first and business product and requiring coach passengers to board via a separate boarding door to ensure privacy for premium guests.

All three classes of passengers on the A321 are in for a far better experience than the current B767s – American Previews Upgraded Fleet Plans & Interiors – Steps It Up. The new AA A321 product features fully lie-flat seats in first and business (all-aisle access from every first Class seat) as well as Main Cabin Extra seating. There’s a total of 20 fully flat business seats and 10 first class seats.

  1. Isn’t Virgin and United already fighting to put the most planes in the air between NY and LAX. Hard to believe there is capacity need there?
