33 Abandoned Places to Visit Around the World

by Adam

I was sent this list a few weeks back from a friend who works at the Daily Mail in London. It’s been making its way around the internet since early March, but the Mail does a nice job offering up some additional details to the normal picture only shared list. Thanks to Jon for securing the intro permission!

From disused fairgrounds to neglected cliff-top hotels, these atmospheric pictures of urban decay and abandoned buildings show just how rapid decline can be without human attention. Disasters such as earthquakes, nuclear explosions and prolonged warfare have left some places uninhabitable while others, like Japanese fairground Nara Dreamland, sadly just fell out of fashion. At the ends of the earth are beautiful sights such as the underwater Christ of the Abyss statue off the Italian coast and the ghost town of Kolmanskop in the Namibian desert, rarely ever seen by people any more.

Check out select pictures with additional details from the Daily Mail here, and the full listing here.

PS – As someone who has visited Ta Prohm Temple in Angkor Wat, the abandoned title might be pushing it…lots of tourists but still an awesome place to visit.
