Trip Report – Hilton Prague Old Town

by Adam

This is part two of a twelve part trip report from my travels to Prague, Nice, Bratislava, Sorrento, and Rome. This trip picture report includes my stay at the Hilton Prague Old Town.

During our stay, a standard room was CZK 2900 ($150 USD), 30,000 HHonors points, or CZK 900 ($47 USD) and 12,000 HHonors Points.

I had booked a King Hilton Guest Room, but was upgraded to a King Executive Room Plus thanks to my HHonors gold status (thanks again to MilesQuest for that).

What’s an Executive Room Plus? As per Hilton’s website “be our privileged guest in this spacious corner room with Executive Lounge access and complimentary continental breakfast and refreshments. The contemporary room, in cool, calm tones, has 1 king bed.”

The corner room was much larger than my colleague’s standard room and also included a couch and additional seating area. However, without a doubt, the Executive Lounge privileges were the best part of the upgrade.

The bed was comfortable, though there were no outlets anywhere near the bed. There were two outlets at the desk and one all the way by the door…that was it.

During my second week I was given another room, a bit smaller bit with great views out into Old Town.

The bathroom was decent. Not that modern, not that old. As standard in Europe, just a half pane of glass for the shower…

As I mentioned, we were really happy with the lounge, the staff were fantastic and the cocktail hour each night was really nice. Breakfast is served 6:30am-10:30am (11:00am weekends), snacks from 3:00pm-6:00pm, hot appetizers and cocktails 6:00pm-8:00pm, and beers, wines, drinks, fruit, and snacks are still available after 8pm. If you are there during cocktail time and don’t have a drink, the servers will come over and ensure that you don’t need anything. The lounge is quite crowded during cocktail time, it seems that most guests take advantage of the complimentary booze! Breakfast was fine for me as I was normally running to the office, however the complimentary breakfast downstairs (included with the upgrade) was even nicer.

While the rule is that you cannot take anything from the lounge, the staff seemed fine allowing guests to take waters (multiple waters) back to their rooms.

A note about wifi – this was by far and away the WORST WIFI service I’ve ever experienced at a large chain hotel. Luckily, it was complimentary based on my status, if I was paying I would not have been happy. I literally had to sit on the floor of the room by the door to get any service at all (no matter where I was located or what room I was in). I still was barely able to connect and so I headed down to the lobby. No improvement at all. The hotel is aware of the poor connection and says it is due to the number of users…perhaps it’s time for an upgrade!

Omelet station, lots of fresh fruit (excellent watermelon) and juices, pastries, breads, yogurts, salads, cheeses, waffles, pancakes, french toast, etc.

The location is one of the best in Prague, though the Marriott is directly across the street as well. You are located right at the start of Old Town and can easily walk to Old Town Square and all the way to the Charles Bridge from the hotel (about a 20 minute walk). The main train station is also walkable, though you’ll need about 15 minutes.

Overall it was a nice stay, the biggest downside being that I was earning HHonors points, one of my least favorite currencies.
